It looks like Toyota too is considering making an all-electric supercar to rival the likes of the Audi e-tron and the SLS AMG E-Cell from Mercedes-Benz.

Help could come from electric-car maker Tesla, with which Toyota recently announced a $50 million (€35 million) partnership deal to co-develop electric propulsion technologies.

According to Motortrend, a Toyota source says the Japanese automaker is developing an electric supercar with around 500 hp and four-electric motors – two on each axle – with a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) time of around 4 seconds. The car would be equipped with a function which allows the driver to select between different types of drive programs such as comfort or sport, in order to have a better command of battery use. The car is tentatively scheduled for a 2015 debut.

Tesla is already scheduled to deliver two electric-car prototypes to Toyota by the end of the month. The two are believed to be electric versions of the Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX models.
