U.S. rental car company Enterprise Rent-A-Car will be buying 500 Nissan Leaf electric cars to use in their fleet nationwide.

The Leaf will be available for rental at Enterprise locations in eight cities starting next January. Enterprise will begin installing charging stations at 100 of its outlets in November.

The Nissan Leaf will go on sale in the United States next year, although Nissan has already begun taking orders, 17,000 by its own count, on the electric car and will start deliveries to those customers in December.

The Leaf has a base price of $32,780 but a $7,500 federal tax credit brings that down to $25,280 – which is what Enterprise will be paying for the cars.

The all-electric Leaf comes with an electric motor producing 80 kW (107 hp / 109 PS) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque. The laminated lithium-ion batteries provide the car with a 100 mile/160 km range on a full charge.
