The Ford Escape remains one of America’s most popular compact SUVs. The Escape will finally get a clean-sheet redesign. The next Escape will share a new international platform that premieres with the next-generation Ford Focus compact car. The Ford Escape series has been one of the front-runners for the vehicle brand and the premium automaker are hard at work in the conceptualization for the 2012 Ford Escape.

The first engine option for 2012 Ford Escape is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that can bring in up to 230 horsepower and 230 lb-ft torque. The second engine option is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder/electric hybrid engine that can offer up to 153 horsepower and 136 lb-ft torque. The engine is paired with the standard six-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid version will come with the CVT or continuous variable timing transmission.

The all new  Ford Escape was introduced in 2001, and its basic exterior and interior design remained unchanged through ’07. It was initially available in XLS, XLT and XLT Sport trims that were joined by the leather-lined Limited a few years later. Ford Escapes were equipped with a rather anemic base engine – a 2.0-liter four that made 130 hp — until ’05 when it was replaced by a 2.3-liter four that made 153 hp. This first-generation Escape also offered an optional V6 that made 200 hp. Although the four-cylinder engines could have a five-speed manual, most had the optional four-speed automatic that was standard on the V6.
