The new Genesis sedan has received accolades for going toe to toe with the best luxury sedans from Japan and Germany. Hyundai is on a mission to have pony car drivers watch out for the Genesis Coupe creeping up in their rearview mirrors. Being one of those rear wheel drive fanatics, it was time to see how the Genesis Coupe measures up.

The 2012 new 5.0 liter Tau engine is a bored-out, direct-injection version of the 4.6-liter V-8 currently found in the Genesis sedan. Bore increases to 96 mm, an increase of 4, while the stroke stays the same at 87 mm. The result is an estimated output of 429 hp at 6500 rpm and 376 lb-ft at 5000 rpm with an 11.5:1 compression ratio. The new engine will be mated to an eight-speed automatic designed and manufactured by Hyundai.

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has standard engine that delivers power up to 300 hp, while it also offers 2.0 liter turbo charged engine as optional, which delivers 210 hp of power. The V6 engine comes mated to 6-speed manual transmission. The features offered in the 2012 Hyundai Genesis coupe model include, electronic stability control, steering wheel audio controls, trip computer, curtain side air bags, 18-inch alloy wheels, front strut brace, projector beam headlamps, air conditioning, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, cruise control, bluetooth connectivity, projector beam headlamps, ipod connectivity, and active head restraints.

The all new Hyundai Genesis Coupe R Spec will also receive front strut camber adjustment bolts, and for the exterior the automaker is making four exterior colours available : Karussell White, Bathurst Black, Interlagos Yellow and Tsukuba Red.
