Britain’s McLaren Motors has officially unveiled their highly anticipated version named 2011 MP4-12C, the world’s newest sports car company. It is a range of high-performance sports cars. These comes with technologies tested by the Mclaren engineers on the race circuit, but also with a design that makes it impossible not to be noticed on the street.

The supercar is powered by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine producing around 600 horsepower and 433 lb-ft of torque. The engine is coupled to a McLaren seven speed Seamless Shift dual clutch gearbox. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3,5 seconds and can hit a top speed of more than 200mph.

McLaren MP4-12C features a revolutionary carbon fibre chassis structure, the Carbon MonoCell: the first time a car in this market segment is based around such a strong and lightweight racing car engineering solution and the first time any car has ever featured a one-piece carbon fibre structure. This step change in sports car design means that the 12C introduces new standards not just in handling, ride and outright performance, but also safety, economy and practicality in an already competitive sector.

Universally accepted as one of the all time greats, the McLaren F1, built between 1993 and 1998, is a very hard act to follow. It took McLaren well over a decade to again launch a sports car under their own name and they did not even attempt to build an actual replacement for the Le Mans winning supercar. Instead McLaren grabbed the elements that made the F1 so very good and applied them to a design for a different, much higher volume market segment. Slated for production from 2011, the all new McLaren MP4-12C will be pitched directly at the Ferrari 458 Italias and the Lamborghini Gallardos of this world.

The powerplant of the McLaren MP4-12C is a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine rated at 600 horsepower with 433 lb-ft of torque. This magnificent engine is mated to a seven-speed Seamless Shift dual clutch gearbox. The car is rev limited to 8,500 but 80% of the torque is available from as low as 2,000 rpm. It’s McLaren’s contention that their supercar will offer the highest horsepower to CO2 ratio of any internal combustion engine in existence. This includes even diesel and hybrid variations. Dispelling all rumors that the engine block or entire powerplant might come from Mercedes, it turns out that McLaren Automotive wil be producing its own bespoke mills.
