Volvo motors has come up with a new technology of a car which is battery electric operated by launching the all new 2011 Volvo C30 EV. It is a full drivable prototype car with complete interiors. The instruments in the car are all up to date and complete. In Detroit, the car is powered by Lithium-Ion batteries. These batteries can be charged in two ways, either by a regular household socket or else with special roadside charging stations. If you want a battery to be fully charged, then it takes around eight hours to do so. If the car is fully charged then the Carbon di Oxide emissions come down to nil.

When the battery is fully charged then the top speed of the car is about 130 km/h. the car can accelerate its speed from 0-60 km/h in just 11 seconds and the range is up to150 km/h. According to Volvo the li-ion powered C30 will only be sold in within European Union nations. EU regulations that are currently in the works will require manufacturers to cut CO2 emissions by 25% within 2 years and the standards will only continue to get more stringent after that. Volvo intends to meet these guidelines by introducing plug-in hybrids and EVs in EU markets.

The Volvo Company is very clear that they will not launch any gas models of the car and neither do they intend to do so in future. The reason for this is that according to them typical gasoline hybrids are subject to additional weight over their gasoline only counterparts and do not significantly reduce CO2 emissions. Apart from the gasoline hybrid cars, they are keeping diesel hybrid cars as an option. The company will be launching 50 electric models in Sweden over the next two years followed by 1000 electric models the next year.
