Saab is a Swedish car manufacturer. Beside their nine-three Convertible Independence limited edition car, Saab has announced some small changes to nine-three Griffin range. They plan to give a facelift to all the models in the range with minor changes to the exterior and interior styling of the car, and upgrade of the engine. It is expected to be ready in 2012. The upgraded range will display the nine-three Griffin badge to show the difference between the new and their predecessors which will be without the badge. It is the last edition of the series before they bring a new generation of cars into the car world.

The engine will have a turbocharged engine of 2.0 litre capacity with direct injection of gasoline. It will provide 163 or 220 horsepower. It can also be used in association with the Saab XWD (cross wheel drive) system. The diesel engines of 1.9 litre capacity are joined to the petrol units. This will enable the all-wheel drive system to run with horsepower ranging from 130 to 160 to 180. The front bumpers will be all new with headlights having an ‘ice block’ look and the Griffin badge to its front fenders. In the interior, the upholstery, the dashboard and the décor around are donned with a new look. This applies to all the models namely SportCombi, Convertible, Sport Sedan and nine-three X. These models will be available in 2 specs, Aero and Standard (customary) and will have six-speed transmissions.

With this engine upgrade, the consumption of combined fuel and the carbon dioxide emissions have significantly fallen, as much as by 4% in the whole range of the nine-three cars. As an example, the SportCombi’s fuel consumption on an average is 4.5 liters/100km or 52.2mpg. Its carbon dioxide emission is 119g/km. These figures have fallen by 4%.
