The latest announcement by Porsche, the automobile company from Stuttgart, Germany, has taken organizers of Nurburgring car race by surprise! It has announced that an improved model of its last year’s Hybrid, the Porsche Hybrid 911, GT3 R, 2.0 version will now take part in the Nurburgring 24-hour race scheduled in June this year.

About one year ago the company had displayed the original model as an advanced hybrid race version which was rated as the best hybrid car ever. Soon some technical faults were found in it and so the model had to be withdrawn from the market.

Focus was then made to improve the car’s hybrid parts bringing about more efficiency in its performance. The new model, Hybrid 2.0, has an engine of 4.0 litre capacity for the rear wheels which produces 480 HP like the 2010 model but two electric engines for the frontal wheels will now deliver 100 HP (75 kilowatts) as compared to its predecessor which delivered 80 HP (60 kilowatts) which means that extra power of 200HP is now available to the drivers. This extra power helps in overtaking and is easily made available through the efficient throttle pedal. Reformatting of the car has also brought the total weight of the car down by 20%, the weight of the 2010 model being 1350 kg (2976 lbs). This will aid in racing with the same speed but lowered fuel consumption.

Outwardly, the difference between the 2010 and the 2011 model is that in the latter there the rear fenders lack louvers because the new technology of the hybrid car makes them redundant and so eliminates them. This also brings about less fuel consumption and reduces any drag. Also, the steering wheel now holds most of the controls and displays facilitating the driver with easy manoeuvrability of his racing Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0.
