Gone are the days when the family with more than three members owns a bus or truck of sorts. These days they have been replaced by SUVs which are a seven-seater, and can be found in the variation of two and four wheel drives. And Mazda’s CX-9 is a cross between a SUV and a people mover. In fact it describes itself as being “three parts SUV and one part people mover.”

Even though this car had debuted into the market at $56,225 right now there are a lot of driveway offers thanks to the pre Christmas sales.

The car has been luxuriously designed in the interior, and the seats even in the third row have ample leg space for the passengers. The brakes work well enough, and it has been rated with a five star.

The 3.7litre DOHC 24-valve V6 engine has quite a responsibility in getting the 2.0-tonne-plus CX-9 wagon up-and-running, but it achieves its task in an amazing manner.

It produces an admirable 204kW at 6250rpm and 367Nm of torque at 4250rpm, it’s a strong unit. The trade-off for performance is fuel consumption, which can suffer if you put the CX-9 to work. A turbo-diesel must have been a better option, but it’s all right for normal driving.

There are cup holders all around this miniature van, so you can rest assured about your kids spilling their drinks, when they don’t want to hold the cup anymore. Unless of course there is a bumpy road ahead! In comparison to other cars which have come to be a cross between a SUV and a moving truck, this car fares rather well as it comes with a number of safety features such as active front head restraints, a reversing camera, six airbags, electronic stability and traction control, ABS brakes with four-wheel discs, electronic brake-force distribution, emergency brake assist and rollover stability control.

Moving your family could have never been more safe or fun!
