Another piece of news from the Tokyo Motor Show: Volkswagen has officially unveiled the 2012 Passat Alltrack!

The news of this first of its kind crossover is all set to debut in the Tokyo Motor Show on the 3rd of December. At least, that is what the official news had been so long. It is supposed to hit the markets for sale in early 2012. Guess the world is not going to end next year then, eh? At least not for the car enthusiasts across the world!

This car coming into the market would mean a lot of things to car lovers across the world. But we are more concerned about the technical details which surround this model.

Well, on the styling front, the Alltrack has plastic body cladding, matte chrome accents, an increased ride height and of course 17-inch alloy wheels.

On the interior of the car, the features are a titan silver trim, faux aluminum pedals, and stainless steel door plates. Other than that, there is an automatic climate control, power windows and a leather wrapped steering wheel.

The boot of this car can hold 603 liters (21.3 cubic feet) of luggage, which can even be brought up to 1,731 liters (61.1 cubic feet) when the seats at the back are folded down. Talk about saving space!

There are four engines under the hood of this car. The petrol variations are rated at 160 PS (118 kW/158 hp) and 210 PS (155 kW/208 hp), and the diesels in the mean time produces 140 PS (103 kW/138 hp) and 170 PS (125 kW/168 hp).

The wagon has off-road intentions but in spite of all that, this all-wheel drive is only standard on Alltracks with the two most powerful engines!

Since a recipe for success has to be made very carefully, Passat Estate-based Alltrack has been gifted with all the virtues except one – the raised suspension height and the look of the stainless steel. However, the pictures which have been released do hint at a very scrumptious looking car.
