It is on the 21st of February that the Mercedes Benz SL 63 AMG roadster had made the first appearance when the drivers of F1, Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher had presented the car in the official Formula One test of the German team in Spain before the world premiere scheduled in March 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show. The new M157 engine of AMG forms the basis of this high performance version. This type of engine is used on a numerous other models of the Mercedes like the ML 63 AMG SUV and THE CLS 63 AMG sports saloon. The 5.5 litre double turbocharged V8 engine produces 529 bhp and a torque of 590 lb ft which propels the roadster from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.2 seconds en route to electronically governed speed of 155 mph.

However, an optional performance package which gives an output of 550 bhp and 664 lb-ft reducing it from 0 to 60 mph to 4.1 seconds and allows the SL 63 AMG to reach maximum velocity of 186 mph. Power in it is transferred to the wheels at the back through seven speed AMG Speedshift automatic transmission. The model of the new generation lightweight chassis which is made of magnesium and aluminium has helped it shed 275 pounds off the current model, something which not only enables the performance to improve but it also minimises consumption of fuel up to 30 percent over the earlier model as mentioned by Mercedes. A brake system with six piston callipers up front and a single piston calliper in the back along with modified suspension, alloy wheels of 19 inch in the tires of high performance and unique touches both in and out the new model gives a complete touch to the package.
