One need not have to wait till Wednesday for the Auto Show to be held in Chicago to see what the production versions of the RDX crossover and Acura’s 2013 ILX compact sedan will look like due to the fact that the Japanese has released its first official photos recently. As expected, the changeover from concept to production did not have much change in both the models. It brings with it some tweaks to the bumper trims and the small and less extravagant alloy wheels.

Starting with ILX, Acura has made efforts to differentiate the compact mdel from the Honda sibling. Beneath the body, it is Honda Civic with the new model available with three engine options. It includes 2.0 liter inline four giving 150 hp at 6500 rpm and torque of 140 lb ft at 4300 rpm, which is joined to a Sequential SportShift 5 speed automatic transmission which returns an EPA estimated 32 mpg highway and 24 mpg city. Next is a 2.4 litre engine delivering 201 hp at 7000 rpm and a peak torque of 170 lb-ft at 4300 rpm linked to a close ratio six speed manual transmission which gives 20 mpg in city and 29 mpg in highways. Finally, there is Acura’s first hybrid model which uses a 1.5 litre inline engine and Honda’s integrated Motor Assist electric motor with a CVT which delivers an EPA estimated 38 mpg in highway and 35 mpg in roads.

Now moving towards the RDX, the new crossover, it replaces the model’s 2.3 litre turbocharged inline four with a V6 engine of 3.5 liter giving an output of 273 hp. The six speed automatic transmission with a torque converter and a light all wheel drive system gives the final touch to the setup. Both these models will enter sales in North America in the upcoming spring season.
