It has been confirmed by a source of TMR that a dual cab ute edition of the 70 series LandCruiser would be introduced by Toyota and is expected to appear in October this year. The demand for this has come from mining sector which at present makes use of the lighter duty Toyota Hilux and IFS dual cab models from others. It is believed that only two or three specification levels will be available, with vinyl floored theme. With the radio and the air conditioner being mandatory, tyre and wheel combinations, trim variations and different locks will be some items which will separate the various specifications. It is expected that the dual cab will share the wheelbase with the 79 series LandCruiser and like the others will be available with manual transmission only.

It is quite reasonable to assume that the new model will be powered by the 4.5 liter V8 D4D turbo diesel engine which is used in the 70 Series range. This means that a power of 151 kW and a torque of 430 Nm will be available and beneath it will be the same live axle suspension attached with coils springing up in front and leaf spring in the back. This 70 Series dual cab ute will be one among the two dual cabs in the market of Australia which continues to run front and back live axle suspension and gives it significant appeal to the four wheel drive looking for a tough and family friendly vehicle. It is heard that the aftermarket has witnessed the new model which indicates that a range of major accessories will be available when they will first go for sale. It is expected that it will do well in the market and is sure to satisfy the needs of the customers.
