Following the debut launch of Subaru XV in Europe and Japan, the new model is now moving forward to the market in North America where it will go for sale as the 2013 XV Crosstrek after the regional premiere at New York International Auto Show which is to be held next month. The XV Crosstrek is based on the recent Impreza hatchback featuring some changes to the body and chassis. The exterior of the compact model has been beefed up with black side and wheel arch cladding, roof rails and rocker spoiler along with unique designs for the back and front bumpers and wheels of 17 inch in 225/55 R17 all season tires. Speaking of the interior there is not many changes. The new models looks are backed up by ground clearance of 8.7 inch, which according to Subaru is higher than other crossovers and also some dedicated SUV’s.

Only one engine is available producing 148 HP 2.0 liter boxer unit joined to a manual gearbox of five speed or a second generation CVT. The AWD system makes use of a viscous coupling locking with the 5 speed manual transmission to distribute power 50/50 from front to back, while the models which are fitted with the CVT gets the Active Torque Split model of the Symmetrical AWD which transfers automatically more power to the wheels. Although the official figures of the EPA fuel economy are not yet disclosed, Subaru has said that this model is expected to be the most fuel efficient all wheel drive crossover on the market which delivers up to 25 mpg in city, 33 mpg highways and 28 mpg combined. This will be offered in two trim levels, namely Premium and Limited. Among other features in the Premium are a telescoping steering wheel with Bluetooth control switches, power windows, side mirrors and door locks. The limited model is featured with leather trimmed upholstery, automatic climate control system, CVT, auto headlamps and a back vision camera with a screen of 4.3 inch.
