The first official photos of the new concept model named Icon which will make its debut in the Auto China Show that is to be held in Beijing next week is out. The model is supposed to preview a forthcoming crossover model which is to be introduced in China within two years from now. The styling features of the car are motivated by the fixed roof MGB GT which was made between 1965 and 1980. The model of three door is said to be almost the same size like that of the Nissan Juke with the platform being sourced from the market of China Roewe 350 and MGS. Power as reported is to come from a turbocharged 1.5 liter engine of four cylinder which is being developed by the parent company of MG.

The MG nameplate was purchased by Nanjing Automobile, the Chinese carmaker in the year 2005, which has become a subsidiary of Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation by the end of 2007. SAIC has tried to reinvent MG the previous year and has started production again in the UK along with MG6, the first all new model to pass by the gates of Longbridge factory of the firm in about 16 years.
