Acura has unveiled the new RLX in the Auto Show held in New York, which might carry the name of the concept but it is well known that it is a camouflaged version of the model of production which is supposed to be launched in North America in the first half of 2013. This new car will replace the RL as the flagship model of Acura in a segment which the company has failed to deliver. The full size sedan of the Japanese brand is of just about the same length as that of the RL but it comes featured with a wheelbase of 2 inch long and front overhang of two inch shorter while both the width of the vehicle and the track is increased by about two inches.

The styling builds on the so called ‘Keen Edge’ design motif as on the ILX. The stance of the concept is emphasized by a set of forged aluminium wheels of 20 inch shod in 255/35 R20 tires of high performance which is one of the few elements that would not make to the production. The most interesting aspect of the concept is concealed from view under the hood of the car as the RLX features the first application of the new Sport Hybrid SH AWD. The system joins a VTEC V6 engine of 3.5 litre and is directly injected to a dual clutch transmission of 7 speed and three electric motors producing a combined output of above 370 hp. As per Acura, the new model produces fuel economy of 30 mpg. It has disclosed that the production 2013 RLX will also be presented in 310 hp, front wheel drive version.

According to Tetsuo Iwamura, the CEO of American Honda they have made a true luxury sedan which is based on the DNA of Acura.
