The new Fusion Hybrid has got EPA ratings of 47 mpg city and 47 mpg highway, with which it has surpassed its predecessor which got rating of 41/36 mpg. Not only that it has beaten the Toyota Camry Hybrid’s hands down , which has EPA rating of 43/39 mpg—not to mention the also-ran Hyundai Sonata Hybrid’s 35/40 mpg.

Under the hood: it’s got a new powertrain—shared with the C-Max, which are smaller gasoline engine than before. The engine has been downsized from 2.5 liters to 2.0-liter .Despite that the total system power generated has dipped by only 3 hp, from 191 to 188 hp. The 1.4 kilowatt lithium-ion battery is smaller and lighter. It has more power which helps the Fusion Hybrid is able to spend more time in EV mode. The battery alone can drive the car via the electric motor at speeds up to 62 mph, versus 47 mph previously. It also comes with a the SmartGauge, an LCD in the instrument cluster showing efficiency information,

During a test drive, the car operated like a full hybrid .When braking to a stop, it turned off the engine. The SmartGauge indicated the regenerative braking. In the beginning, the Fusion Hybrid’s battery was nearly depleted, so the engine remained on while driving. It didn’t make much sound and added very little vibration to the car. At the end of the drive, the SmartGauge display indicated the battery was up to half full.

The Fusion is available with either a MyFord or MyFord Touch. The MyFord Touch system is similar to other Ford models.

It has a single LCD in the instrument cluster, and a 4.2-inch LCD on the center stack. The instrument cluster display shows trip information, while the center display shows phone and stereo information. Sync is included with both infotainment systems, offering voice command over connected phones and MP3 players.
