Caterham motorsport is ready with its next league of sports car. The superlight weight R500 gives way to the R600.

The R600 would take part in the 2013 Superlight R600 Championship and the R300 championships. The races are going to be held in Donington Park, Silverstone, Oulton Park, Brands Hatch, Snetterton and Rockingham, all in UK. While Germany will have only one event at Nürburgring.

Simon Lambert, the chief motorsport and technical officer of Caterham said that motorsport is going to get more interesting with the arrival of this new car.

He further said that, this will provide the existing 300 racers with a real step up. It would be exciting and challenging not only for new drivers but also for the experienced ones. Speaking about the R600 he said, that it represents an increase in aggressiveness, although the linear power delivery of the supercharged engine makes it superbly drivable.

The engine of the Superlight is powered by the 2.0 liter Ford Duratec engine. It works on the forced induction technology and generates a power of 275 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 200 lb-ft. The power is sent to the rear wheels with the help of the six-speed sequential gearbox.

It also comes with a Titan limited slip differential and Avon slick tyres or wets.

Caterham is not thing of a road car yet as that would mean a complete overall of the existing race car. However a possibility might be there the race car proves its worth.

In 2013 16 R600 will join the grid, which is going to increase to 30 by 2014. The price at which it is available in UK is £ 44,995. While those who already won a R300, can get their car upgraded to the new superlight.
