Volkswagen has revealed the photos ad technical specifications of the Volkswagen 2013 beetle convertible ahead of the LA auto show. The Los Angeles auto show will begin on November 30. The convertible is a variant of the 2013 Beetle coupe.

The highlight of the new model is, it comes with same soft top. Seems VW is not to keen for changeover to the hardtop. It would mean the rear deck would have less folding space for a hard top. However from the photos it seems that the soft top protrudes less from the rear than the previous models.

The folding fabric needs just 10 seconds to open and close. It can do the same at speeds of 48 kmph (30mph).

Engine: The engine is available in different formats in US and Europe.

The US market gets a different engine. The 2.5 liter base engine, which is linked to a 6–speed automatic transmission. It produces 170 hp and maximum torque of 177 lb-ft. It also has options of a 2.0 turbocharged TSI engine. The same produces 200 horse power and a torque of 207 lb-ft. Lastly it also offers a 2.0 liter diesel variant, which produces 140 hp.

The European model comes with a wider range of options. It has the gasoline engines of 1.2 that gives 105 PS, the 1.4 TSI with 160 PS and the 2.0 liter with 200 PS. The diesel variant includes, a 1.6 liter engine, with 105 and 2.0 liter with 140 PS of power.

On the highway the convertible scores an EPA rating points of 41 mpg. The price of the convertible has not been announced yet for the US market. It may be known during the LA motor show or after that. In Germany it is priced at Euro 21,350.
