2013 Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet “2013 Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet” Concept revealed

The 2012 SEMA aka Specialty Equipment Market Association was used by Ford to showcase the ‘Ford Racing Mustang Cobra Jet’ concept.

Every car brand wants to stay ahead of the other competitors. For the very first time Ford Racing has packed its turn-key racer, which is factory-built, with a turbo engine. It has put to use the same appreciated and winning technology that is found in EcoBoost engines.

The first inventive Mustang Cobra Jet drag racers were equipped with 7.0 liter capacity V8 4 cylinder engines in the year 1968. Almost four decades down the line, Jesse Kershaw, manager of ‘Ford drag racing competition’ states “”When a new generation of Cobra Jets arrived four decades later, they immediately began winning with a modern, fuel-injected 5.4-liter V8 topped with a belt-driven supercharger,”. He added, “Over the past four years, the Cobra Jet has gone on to become both a fan and competitor favorite, the most successful late-model vehicle in drag racing.”

Rob Deneweth, the development engineer of Cobra Jet powertrain, stated “Ford has embraced turbocharging technology and a lot of our production engineers are working with the technology on a daily basis, so we have a lot of knowledge” . He also explained further saying “So we decided to apply that knowledge to the Mustang Cobra Jet to showcase what our engineers and suppliers know how to do”.

The Ford Mustang Cobra Jet concept features a white coloured framework accented with asymmetric blue and black coloured stripes running over the car across bumper to bumper. The sides of this car combine an upward directed edition of this stripe along with the patent style cobra head in black incorporating blue accents.

After the SEMA show the engineers at Ford Racing will look into what can be done to enhance the performance and the robustness of the dual-turbo Cobra Jet.
