The 2013 New York International Auto Show played host to the premiere of the Kia Motors’ all new 2014 Soul urban utility vehicle.

The Track’ster concept was unveiled in 2012, and this one is a step further where styling is concerned. Recognizable yet fresh, it is stiffer, longer and wider. Increased passenger space and cargo space, make it a lively and swift companion in crowded environments. The sales are expected to start from the third quarter of this year and it comes in unique three levels: Base, Plus and Exclaim.

Michael Sprague, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications at Kia Motors America was quoted saying, “When the first Soul was introduced in 2009, everyone at Kia believed we had a hit on our hands, but we didn’t realize how big that hit was going to be. The Soul moved the needle significantly from a sales and marketing perspective, becoming one of our top-selling cars and inspiring the now-legendary hamster commercials. It was important that the all-new Soul remain true to the original iconic design while infusing it with improved driving dynamics and desirable features that add appeal, sophistication and value.”

Their focus was to create a drive that was joyful. Solid and Rigid base was the key factor, and the new body is now 28.7 more rigid than the body of the current Soul. While keeping in mind the iconic design, a few premium features have been added to this vehicle, thus making it a lot more desirable.

18 months of work turned this fantasy into reality. The chief designer at the California Studio, Tom Kearns said, “The all-new Kia Soul was one of the more difficult assignments we’ve taken on. Striking the balance between the wonderful design of the current care with the audacious proportions and stance of the Track’ster was daunting. It proved to be a truly collaborative effort with guidance from Peter Schreyer in Frankfurt and assistance from our studio in Korea. In the end, we’ve kept the essence of Soul while infusing it with more presence inside and out.”

The statistics of the new vehicle are 101.2 inches wheelbase, width of 70.9 inches and a height of 63.4 inches. The standard wraparound greenhouse, high mounted tail light and the tall ride height are present. In addition to this, premium LED front positioning lights and rear LED halo lights have been incorporated in the design. It has been made more spacious by including a wider opening for the lift gate. Apart from Solar yellow and Inferno Red, the vehicle will be made available in five more colors.

Soft touch materials have been used on the instrument panels, the center console and the door panels. Leather seating with improved lateral and thigh support. Use of high gloss piano black trim pieces on the central console and dash. These are the few features that give it the interiors a premium look and feel.

The vehicle comes in a neat package, and the package includes the eight inch touch screen, which houses the second generation telematics and infotainment system and UVO eServices. Another new feature is the addition of the Pandora internet radio, which helps the owner to customize his listening experience. The vehicle also has access to travel information such as weather alerts, security alerts, and road conditions in addition to the movie times, sports scores, stock prices and fuel prices.

The other features include power windows, door locks, Heated outside mirrors, six speakers AM/FM/MP3 audio unit, telescoping steering wheel, Bluetooth hands-free wireless technology, USB/AUX inputs, remote keyless entry, 16 inch alloy wheels, six speed automatic transmission and a cruise control. These features surely make it a vehicle to look out for!
