With the announcement of the new 2014 Insignia range it seems that Vauxhall is determined to keep its’ leading position in the mid-size car sector which it has largely dominated since the launch of the eye-catching design in 2008.

The range is now available as a four door saloon, a five door hatchback and a sports tourer estate and prices start at just £16,279, approaching £2,000 less than the present series. The range has also been simplified with just eight trims instead of the previous fourteen. As with all Vauxhalls, there is a lifetime warranty for the first owners for as long as they own the car, or for 100,000 miles.

The New Insignia’s CDTi 2.0 engine is available in a choice of power outputs of 120PS, 140PS and 163PS and gives exceedingly low CO2 emissions. There are two new petrol direct injection power units, the 1.6 litre SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) model producing 170PS and the 2.0 litre version giving 250PS.

Inside the vehicle a lot has changed. The centre console has been completely re-designed, as has the instrument panel. The centre console has fewer buttons than before for controlling functions such as the air conditioning and infotainment, while the instrument panel has two outer dials for fuel and revs with a centre one which is the speedometer. This can be altered to show in either analogue or digital form, or changed to show navigation, smartphone functions and so on.

The infotainment display has a touch screen which can be used to access radio stations, smartphone connection, navigation and even song titles. Storage is available for up to sixty menus and apps can be downloaded via the Bluetooth internet connection.

All steering wheels are leather covered and there is premium seating featured. Electrically operated front windows and door mirrors also come as standard and in addition entry and start is keyless.

Outside the car, the high shine chrome grill is now wider and lower than before. The headlamps feature high gloss black with chrome and fog lamps come as standard. The hatchback has a classic coupe look, while the saloon looks longer than it did because of the design features.

Also featured is innovative radar and camera-based park-assist and adaptive cruise control.

There are two new colours added to the Insignia range – Autumn Green and Emerald Green.

The 2014 Insignia also give company car drivers a huge advantage over their main competitors, the Ford Mondeo and Volkswagen Passat because of the new low CO2 emissions. Savings of at least £1,000 in Benefit in Kind tax are available together with more standard features and also lower fuel consumption.
