Chrysler has released the 2014 Ram 1500 officially. Chrysler had already implemented major changes in the model recently which included a new front bumper, a larger grille and LED infused headlights, LED taillights and a new 6′ 4″ bed option on crew cab variants. Thus the Ram 1500 upgrade does not bring any path breaking innovation to the table. It only offers minor tweaks. Notable among them is a revamped color palette for the body of the car. The new colors that have been added are Blue Streak and Granite Crystal. A new front park assist system has been used that can detect objects that are up to 47.2 inches (120 cm) away from the front of the car. This alerts the driver if a speeding vehicle approaches the car or if a person accidentally appears in front of the car. This ensures that the driver is insulated from accidents and also guarantees the safety of the people around the car. Another significant addition is the variable displacement air compressor and a pulse width modulation blower. They help in improving the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. They turn the engine off when the vehicle is not moving, especially in a traffic signal and helps conserve fuel.

The engine has been given a face lift too. Ram is the only brand to offer a small displacement diesel for its half ton line of trucks. It now is blessed with a 3.0 liter V6 EcoDiesel engine that generates 240 bhp (179 kW) and 420 lb-ft (568 Nm) of torque. It is mated to an eight speed automatic transmission. The mileage of the car impresses when pitted against its counterparts in this segment. In fact when pitted against its own predecessor, it overshadows it in every respect. The new Ram gives 42 percent more horsepower, 13 percent more torque (305 horsepower 269 lb.-ft. torque) and at least 20 percent better fuel economy when compared to the previous 3.7-liter V-6 engine. The other engine – the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 with Fuel Saver Technology and variable-valve timing (VVT) provides 395 horsepower, 410 lb.-ft. of torque. The car comes with a stop and a start button for easy controlling of the car. It also has an inbuilt thermal management system which provides extreme comfort to the passengers in the car. The pulse width modulation and active aerodynamics ensure that the car sails through the roads as smoothly as ever. It has a coefficient of drag (Cd) at 0.360. The number speaks for itself.

The other technical additions are the front grille shutters and air suspension system that absorb the fluctuations of the road and ensure a comfortable long journey to the passengers. The air suspension also enhances the fuel economy of the car and improves ride control, something a driver is always looking for. It also improves the off road capability along with entry and exit and loading. It has the automatic road leveling option by virtue of which it senses the type of road it is traversing on and optimizes the suspension system accordingly. The inbuilt infotainment system consists of the award winning Uconnect Access. It offers ways to access new connected services and applications. The interface is in the form of a 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Web connectivity is also provided for more information. The car comes with the powertrain warranty of five years or 100,000 miles.
The 2014 Ram 1500’s pricing will start from $24,200, exlcusive of a $1,095 destination charge. The ones which are fitted with the EcoDiesel engine will cost $2,850 more than similarly equipped models with the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and the eight-speed automatic transmission.
