Audi, one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers has decided to diversify into lighting technology for its cars. Audi is already a prominent player in the domain of lighting technology which it uses in its cars. They have decided to take it one step higher by introducing the Audi Matrix LED headlights. The new lighting technology will be first seen on the Audi A8 which will be launched by the end of 2013 in the market.

Audi Matrix LED technology takes on an innovative approach in lighting. It divides the LED headlights into several small diodes working in close association with lenses or reflectors connected in series. They are all controlled by a control unit which takes in parameters based on ambient conditions and switches them on or off based on the requirement. The parameters are taken from the environment through a feedback mechanism and requires no intervention by the driver.

The front camera in the A8 has the job of detecting oncoming vehicles. As soon as it detects one, the Audi Matrix LED headlights dim sections of the high beam headlights for the convenience of the driver in the oncoming vehicle. This does not mean that it dims out all lights. Lights that will not interfere with the vision of the driver of the other vehicle continue to be on. The lights will change their state based on the real time position of other vehicles. As soon as the vehicle passes by and the camera detects a clear coast, it will set all the high beam LEDs to the on state and thus resume full functionality. The change in lighting does not in any way hamper the vision of the Audi driver as he continues to see things as he should.

The lights will serve to increase the sophisticated looks of an Audi further.
