Bugatti, the celebrated French luxury car manufacturer has decided to pay homage to those personalities who have historically played crucial role in the history of Bugatti and has helped in creating its mystique. The series will be named “Les Légendes de Bugatti” (Bugatti Legends) and will be launched at the 90th anniversary of the 24 Heures du Mans. The first car in the series is devoted to Jean-Pierre Wimille who won two victories for Bugatti at Le Mans.

Wimille was born in 1908 and was one of the longest serving test drivers at Bugatti. He drove for them for most of his racing career. In 1933, he joined Bugatti as the official test driver and won the Algerian Grand – Prix. In 1935, he drove a T 59 in the hill climb at La Turbie near Nice. This was followed by securing the second place in Tunisian Grand – Prix and fourth place in the Spanish Grand – Prix. His twin victories for the brand at Le Mans remain his greatest contribution to the brand. Wimille died in a car crash in 1949 in Buenos Aires.

Inspired by the 1937 model, the design of the “Jean-Pierre Wimille” Bugatti Legend has been drawn up. Since the car appeared in the racing blue finish traditional to French racing cars, the legend is now appearing in blue clear coated carbon fiber with a Wimille blue paintwork finish. The theme of the paintwork is continued in the inside also.

All the Bugatti Legends are based on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sports Vitesse. This is the fastest series Roadster in the world powered by a 8 liter W16 engine delivering a maximum power of 1200PS and a maximum torque of 1500 Nm. It takes a mere 2.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph.
Three vehicles are planned to be produced as the Bugatti Legend Jean Pierre wimille.
