Audi A8, the flagship model of the premium automobile maker from Germany has received an upgrade that leaves us desiring it more than ever. The key points that were kept in mind were a lightweight cage, extremes of comfort inside and high end technologies to assist the driver. The matrix LED headlights are another value addition to this car. The engine has also been revamped to pack in more power than ever. The car weighs a meager 1830 kgs. This sets new standards for vehicles that use the all wheel drive. The exteriors have been made of aluminium to ensure that the body is light yet strong. The Audi A8L is slightly bigger in dimensions. The design has also set new standards. It has given the car a more composed and subtle look.

The Matrix LED technology is an optional add on. They consist of 25 LEDs that can be functional based on the situation. Thus these LEDs dim when other vehicles are around while they always illuminate the road brightly. There is more to the headlights than this. We have the all new intelligent cornering light, the completely redesigned daytime running lights and dynamic turn signals. The lighting system in the Audi A8 makes use of predictive terrain data from the inbuilt navigation system to alter the distribution of light keeping in mind the current driving situation. Working in conjunction with the optional Navigation plus with MMI touch, the car recognizes the route data loaded in the navigation system, such as curves and the various road classifications.

Audi A8 has been launched in the German market with a gasoline and two diesel engines. These engines include the 3.0 TFSI that produces an output of 228 kW (or 310 hp), the V8 twin turbo 4.0 TFSI with an output of 320 kW (or 435 hp), the 3.0 TDI clean diesel with a peak power output of 190 kW (or 258 hp) and finally the 4.2 TDI clean diesel, which generates 283 kW (or 385 hp) and a torque of 850 Nm (or 626.93 lb ft). As a result of these engine combinations, the performance has been enhanced significantly. When mated to the quattro all wheel drive, the 4.0 TFSI has the power to accelerate the A8 from 0 to 100 km/h (or 62.14 mph) in a mere 4.5 seconds. When under partial load, the Audi uses its cylinder on demand (COD) system and deactivates four out of the eight cylinders. The best engine in terms of fuel economy is the 3.0 TDI clean diesel. When on this, the A8 consumes 5.9 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (or a mileage of 39.87 US mpg). The carbon credentials are impressive too – 155 grams CO2 per kilometer (or 249.45 g/mile). All engines comply with the Euro 6 standard. Friction reducing measures have been adopted in order to reduce fuel consumption by 10 percent.
