Ferrari has brought its formidable innovations to bear on the already exceptional model of 458 Italia. The result is a car with such a combination of powertrain, style and aerodynamic design that it can truly be called Speciale. It is now assured that many of the exceptional features of this car are slated to become standard in all future Ferrari models.

The car is powered by a V8 engine with a displacement of 4495cc. It generates a maximum power of 605 cv @ 9000 rpm and a peak torque of 540 Nm @ 6000 rpm. This powerful engine takes an unbelievable 3 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph. It also has a markedly reduced carbon emission.

Attention was centered on the aerodynamic design of the car so that it could deliver optimum performance. The greatest innovations in this regard are the front and the back movable aerodynamics that are designed to balance downforce and cut drag. This little tweak has successfully made this model the most aerodynamically efficient of all the Ferrari models.

The Side Slip Angle control system (SSAC) is another major innovation incorporated in the car. It analyzes the side slip of the car instant to instant, compares it to target value and then optimizes torque value and torque distribution with the help of F-1 Trac traction control and E-diff electronic differential respectively.

The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tyres are specially designed for this model. They allow the car to get maximum available grip in the wet as well as boost performance and improve consistency in dry conditions. All these innovations have vastly improved the car’s single lap time. it now has the fastest response time and highest lateral acceleration ever achieved by a car in the Prancing Horse range.

The car is scheduled to be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show.
