Volvo is planning to launch three new concept cars inspired by the Scandinavian design and iconic elements from the past. The emphasis has always been on the strong emotional lines of the design. Thomas Ingenlath – the Senior Vice President of design has now incorporated the new Scalable Product Architecture developed by the company. Because of this, the Volvo cars are no longer dependant on cross brand platforms. All the future Volvo cars are going to apply this design principle which eschews the superficial excitement of other car designs for the calm and confident beauty that is the trademark of Volvo.

The new Volvo coupe comes with low bonnet and roof, conveying the sense of barely restrained power. This is heightened by the five spoke 21 inch wheels. A beltline spans the horizontal expanse of the car. In addition, there are several other design features inspired by the Volvo P1800 from the 1960s.

One of the leading features of the scalable product architecture is the elements of autonomous driving incorporated into it. At present, it includes an autonomous steering which will make driving safe and comfortable, to be introduced in 2014. This is going to be extended and Volvo plans to launch cars with fully autonomous technology by 2020.

The new concept car of Volvo is powered by 2.0 liter high performance Drive E petrol engine with a supercharger and a turbo. It gives a maximum total power output of 400 hp and a peak torque of 600 Nm.

The exterior and interior appearance whisper of class and elegance. The blue grey exterior is the epitome of calmed refinement while the interior is adorned with handcrafted leather on the instrument panel, naturally aged wood on the inlays and the dark blue woven carpets.
