Audi has now presented its A3 Cabriolet concept. It is a compact four seater that catches the eye because of its smooth flowing lines of design. It comes with high performance assist systems, new engines and lightweight construction. The proportion of the car has been changed markedly from the previous version. It is now 4.42 meters in length compared to the previous 4.2 meters; 1.79 meters in width compared to the previous 1.77 meters though the height has been reduced from 1.41 meters to 1.26 meters. The wheelbase has been extended from 1.56 meters to 1.6 meters. The result is a low stance that is reminiscent of a crouching animal about to unleash its tremendous power. These changes in the proportions have definitely affected the sporty look of the model.

There are three engine choices. The 1.4 liter TFSI engine produces 103 kW while the 1.8 liter TFSI engine creates a power of 132 kW. Then there are 1.6 TDI with 81 kW and 2.0 TFSI which is supposed to produce 221 kW. Seven speed S tronic transmission and the Quattro all wheel drive system are also on offer.

To maintain harmony in the design of this two door car, several other designing changes have been made. The aluminum trim surrounding the windshield and the aluminum look trim strip that runs all around the car emphasize the designing highlights of the vehicle. The taut tornado line on the side of the car along with the contoured sheet metal surface have been used intelligently to create an intricate interplay of light and shadow that imparts a unique look to the design. The front of the car comes with a single frame radiator grille. This, coupled with the flat design of the headlights emphasizes the horizontal styling. LED technology is available as optional upgrade. There are 16 different paint options.

One of the outstanding features of the Cabriolet is the soft top. It is stretched over a kinematic mechanism of magnesium steel. The top unfolds within 18 seconds at the touch of a button. When opened, it rests in three layers without compromising the luggage capacity. It comes with a glass rear window. Black is the standard color though you may also choose brown or grey while the roofliner comes in black or silver. Wind deflector has been incorporated while head level heating for the front seats are optional. The soft top comes with two spring loaded plates recessed into the body to protect the occupants in case of a rollover accident.

The interior of the Cabriolet continues its bold statement of style and elegance. Simple and intuitive controls of the car have been placed on the slightly curved dashboard where the console is subtly angled towards the driver. The air vents are large and round following the jet design while the three dimensional trim strips serve to emphasize the elegance. For the first time in this class, Audi is offering touch sensitive reading lights as a part of optional lighting package.

In addition to luxury, the car does not compromise on space. Four adults can be comfortably accommodated while the rear seats can be folded down to provide a convenient through load area. For different trim levels, you can choose from cloth, leather or Alcantra upholstery material.

Several latest technology has been incorporated in the car to make driving easy and safe. A simple push button mounted on the central console helps to operate the electro mechanical parking brake. The Cabriolet comes with Driver information system, Adaptive cruise control, Audi side assist, Audi active lane assist, camera based traffic sign recognition, park assist with selective display and a highly developed pre sense safety system.

The Bang and Olufsen sound system with MMI navigation plus provides the on board entertainment.
