Volkswagen has come out with three different editions of the Golf in the Frankfurt Motor show. There is the Golf R which is an all wheel drive flagship car; then there is e-Golf which has zero tailpipe emission. Finally, there is the Golf Sportsvan concept. This is a unique model created with the features of both the minivan and the compact to create the most suitable vehicle for a young family. It is the successor to the Golf Plus and also embodies a number of features of the Golf GTI. The car will appear in the market as a compact minivan by the middle of 2014.

You can choose from six new engines in the Golf Sports concept. There are four variations of turbo charged TSI petrol engines producing the maximum powers of 63 kW, 81 kW, 92 kW and 110 kW. In addition, there are two turbocharged TDI diesel engines which produce the peak power of 81 kW and 110 kW. All of the above except the 63 kW engine can be optionally combined with automatic dual clutch gearbox. All the engines are equipped with the start stop technology which make the car 19% more fuel efficient and conform to the high Euro VI standards. For example, the 1.6 TDI BlueMotion engine of 81 kW uses only 3.7 liters of fuel to cover 100 kms.

The concept car is 4388 mm in length, 1807 mm in width and 1578 mm in height. Comparing with the estate and the Golf Plus, it is seen that it is longer than the latter while shorter than the former. The front overhand is reduced by 20 mm which increases the dynamic presence of the car while the rear overhang has been extended by 46 mm resulting in a larger boot. The wheelbase too has increased by 50 mm which helps in imparting a sporty look to the vehicle.

Along with this elongated style is the sharply contoured look of the new concept car. The design lines of the car are taut and precise while the longer wheelbase adds to the dynamic appearance. the side profile presents a silhouette that is decidedly sporty as well as elegant. The sharply drawn character lines integrate the specially designed door handles. The exterior mirrors are mounted on the door pillars. A clean, precise and sharp character line has been used with finesse to emphasize the shoulder of the car and its muscular proportions. The additional side window in the vicinity of the A pillar increases visibility to a marked extent. Same purpose is served by the fifth side window near the D pillar. The higher trims of the car will come in chrome lined side windows which will emphasize this character of the car.

The distinctive light refracting edge of the roof, the strong character line and redesigned radiator grille and the bumper have changed the front look of the car while significantly wide rear windscreen framed by roof spoiler with air guide elements on the side and the two part tail lights that extend the aerodynamic trailing edges complete the exterior look of the car.

The interior is no less well thought out. The sporty central control is mounted on a vertical dashboard while adjustable armrest adds to the comfort. There are a number of practical storage areas including the dashboard, above and in the doors, in the armrest, pockets and folding tables on the back of front seats and sliding drawers underneath it. The car comes with 60:40 split in rear bench with longitudinal adjustments. The car has 74 liters cargo space which can be increased to 498 liters when the rear seats are set in the front most position.
