The Scalable Product Architecture is a much touted innovative platform of the Volvo. Three new concept cars are supposed to be launched based on this platform. The first of them is the XC90 which is scheduled to appear in 2014. This Volvo coupe concept embodies the strong stance and the emotional designing lines which have become the trademark of Volvo.

The new platform of Scalable Product Architecture was developed in house and it has liberated Volvo from the previous cross brand platforms. The external appearance of the new concept car is quite striking with a low bonnet and roof, conveying a sense of restrained power. This is emphasized by the five spoke 21 inch wheels. New T shaped daylight running lights have been mounted on the redesigned bonnet which now has a ‘floating’ grille.

The aesthetics of the car which echoes the iconic P1800 and reverberates with the links to the glorious designing legacy of Volvo is truly special. The outside is an elegant blue grey while the interior contains several designing elements like the sparkling crystal gear lever, leather instrument panel, dark blue woven carpets and inlays of naturally aged wood. The large portrait touch screen is one of the distinctive design elements of the interior.

The car is powered by a 2.0 liter Drive E petrol engine with supercharger and turbo. This is complemented by electric motor in the rear axle. The combined power output is 400 hp with a peak torque of 600 Nm.
The design of the concept car is also geared towards the first step in autonomous driving. They will come with autonomous steering which is designed to avoid accidents and offer a more comfortable driving experience. Volvo is aiming to launch fully autonomous driving systems by 2020.
