For the buyers out there looking for a new manly looking SUV, the Journey with its wagon like appearance was bit of a damper. Answering this, is the new Crossroad trim level by Dodge. Slated to be unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show next week, one really looks forward to the 2014 Dodge Jounrney Crossroad.

The vehicle has perfected that tough rugged look with distinctive front and rear fascia revamping and new features. According to Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO – Dodge brand, Chrysler Group LLC, ‘The Journey has always been Dodge’s Swiss Army Knife in the CUV segment, and with the new Journey Crossroad, we are expanding that flexibility by now offering three different exterior appearances. The Journey Crossroad’s rugged styling gives it a tough presence on the road; the available all wheel drive system gives it the capability to back it up in a variety of bad weather driving conditions. ’

For a SUV, performance is essential which is seen in the standard 2.4 liter 16 valve DOHC four cylinder engine. Power output is put at 173hp and 166 lb-ft of torque. The engine is linked to a four speed automatic transmission. The engine delivers 26 mpg on the highway. There is available the award winning 3.6 liter Penta star V-6 engine on the SUV which produces 283 hp and 260 lb-ft torque. It is mated to a six speed automatic transmission. It delivers up to 25 mpg on the highway.

According to Dodge’s press statement, both the standard 2.4 liter four cylinder engine and available 3.6 liter Pentastar V-6 powertrain deliver more than 500 miles of highway driving range. With a 5 year/ 100.000 mile limited powertrain warranty, owners can rest assured knowing their powerful and efficient Journey is well covered.

For better performance, there is the all-wheel-drive for those who want better control over their vehicle. The all wheel drive ‘works on demand’ by driving the front wheels only in order to maximize fuel efficiency until power to the rear wheels is needed. Without having the need to switch on and off, the system works smoothly and provides traction on snow, ice and other low traction surfaces.

About the stability control of the vehicle, Dodge says – Dodge Journey features standard electronic stability control (ESC) and all speed traction control, which help keep the crossover on path in a variety of road surface and weather conditions. Journey’s available all wheel drive electronic control module works with the ESC and traction control systems, allowing the ESC system to use the ECC to help control the vehicle, reducing the amount of torque that the ECC transmits to the rear wheels.

Exterior features are a visual treat with the new front fascia which has a Platinum Chrome accent, gloss black grille and fog lamp surrounds along with Platinum Chrome roof rails and unique extended side sills, black headlamp bezels, Gloss Black tail lamp bezels. Similarly, the rear fascia has a Platinum Chrome finish and a ‘Crossroad’ badge on the tailgate. Exterior colours include Pitch Black, Bright Silver metallic, White, Copperhead Pearl, Fathom Blue Pearl, Granite Crystal Metallic, Pearl White Tri coat and Redline Red 2 coat Pearl.

Interior features include black leather with sport mesh insert finish along with Light Slate Grey accent stitching. Light Slate Grey Accent is used throughout the interiors while a new Liquid Graphite finish is applied to the instrument panel and centre console. Another standard feature is the hidden storage bin under the seat cushion. Cargo space is 67.6 cu.ft on folding the second and third seats flat. to look forward to, as well, is the giant Chrysler’s 8.4 inch Uconnect screen.
