The Astra has been one of the best known cars manufactured by German auto makers Opel. The model has been in production since 1991 and now in its fourth generation of production. In 2002 a concept racing car based on the Astra was showcased. Opel has announced a follow up of that concept car. This new model will be called the Astra OPC Extreme and it has been developed as a race car by Opel’s Open Performance Center (OPC) division. Its debut will take place at the 2014 Auto Show in Geneva. The car is ready to make as it will be the fastest Opel car on street.

Interior/ Exterior

As it is a racecar the interior is stripped. The concept here is that the interior will be put together by using lighter materials and waste parts will be eliminated. There is no rear seat in the car. a safety roll-bar has replaced the regular rear seat. The front seats are Recaro bucket seats that have been fitted with 6-point Schroth safety belts. Because of this sitting arrangement the passengers are integrated into the car in an effective manner. There is also a host of small enhancements that does not fail to charm like suede wrapped steering wheel and other carbon fiber based interior designing.

On the exterior, carbon fiber has been used with great efficiency. As a result the car is almost 100kg lighter than the regular Astra OPC. The hood, the roof and the wheels, all are made from carbon fiber. The new Astra has sculpted body and emphasizes its sports car nature.

Engine/ Performance

The new 2015 Astra OPC Extreme will run on a 2.0liter 4 cylinder turbo-charged engine. the engine is totally made of aluminum and gives an output of 300 horsepower. This is Opel’s most powerful four cylinder engine yet. It is paired with limited-slip differential brakes and a 6-speed manual transmission. The car does 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds and has top speed of 155 mph.
