Japanese carmaker Nissan first brought out the ‘Navara’ in 1986 as compact sized pickup truck. The name is inspired by the Navarre region of Spain. Apart from Asia, the vehicle was sold as the ‘Nissan Frontier.’ Over the years it has evolved into a mid-size pick-up truck. In some markets it is sold under the ‘NP300’ name. In January 2014, Nissan had announced the 12th generation (D23) of the model, the ‘2015 Navara NP300 ’. It was recently unveiled in Thailand where it will also be built. The new truck will be sold as the 2015 model year in all markets except the USA where the ‘Frontier’ badge will continue to be in use. The new vehicle have been inspired by the latest line-up of Nissan models while at the same time it contains an evolution of the outgoing models of the particular. This new offering from Nissan will go up against rivals like ‘Volkswagen Amarok’, ‘Mazda BT-50’, ‘Holden Colorado’ and ‘Ford Ranger’.

According to the official press release by Nissan, “…the NP300 Navara meets the needs of demanding individuals and business owners alike… The all-new model boasts highly competitive fuel economy, improved acceleration and easier operation, a more rigid and durable frame, as well as modern yet tough and strong design…The Nissan NP300 Navara is represented by a wide range of body types and powertrain options according to individual market demands, through narrow- and wide-body type, king and double cab models, as well as all-wheel drive and two-wheel drive types.”


The new pickup has a more refined and upscale look than its predecessors thanks to the V-motion style front grille and touches of chrome on the waist line. The overall design is sportier and more expressive. The light signature is boomerang shaped and has new LED daytime running lights. Turn indicators can be found on the door mirrors. There are two new exciting exterior colors, Earth Bronze and Savannah Yellow that emphasize the essence of this new vehicle, ‘vital yet urban.’

Nissan claims the interior is more comfortable and spacious than all other pickups in the segment and they may be right. The interior feels very spacious thanks to the dashboard that has 3-dimensional sections, from the door side to the center panel. Finer materials have been used to build the interior and on the dash there is aluminum like touches. The special stitching on the seats gives a premium feel to the cabin. Apart from the daily business use you can also the ‘Navara NP300’ for a relaxing day out with family. The tactile steering wheel has features that will make it easier for the driver to control the important functions. At the center of the console there is a TFT screen so that you can keep the necessary information like compass and fuel indicator close to you. There is also turn-by-turn navigation that provides a great deal of support while driving through unknown terrains. Many physical buttons have been retained along with the addition of touchscreen multimedia infotainment.


All standard safety features are present- airbags, ABS, EBD. In addition the pickup comes packed with Active Brake Limited Slip, Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist and Vehicle Dynamic Control. To support the strong chassis, the manufacturers have used reworked leaf suspension. In the area of drive system, you will get electric four wheel drive system.

The new pickup truck will run on a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder DOHC diesel engine that has been reworked. It can tuned for two levels of performance: 163 PS /120 kW with torque of 403 Nm/ 297 lb-ft and 190 PS /140 kW with torque of 450 Nm / 332 lb-ft. with the engine you will get to choose from a manual six-speed or an auto seven-speed gearbox.
