Iconic American car makers Ford always have had their share of fast cars. In 2005, they took the popular compact car ‘Focus’ and brought out a hot hatch ( high performance hatchback) version called the ‘ST.’ it was given a Ford Duratec turbo charged 5 cylinder 2.5 liter engine that produced 225 hp/ 168 kW power. Over the years, along with the regular Focus, the ‘ST’ version has also been upgraded. In 2012, a new ST was launched by Ford. This version was more powerful and created 247 hp thanks to the 2.0 liter EcoBoost turbo charged engine. The Car won appreciation from critics and also several awards. At this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, held in the UK, the new ‘Ford Focus 2015’ made its debut. It was a perfect platform to showcase a car that combines modern technology, high performance and also high efficiency. On the occasion, Joe Bakaj, VP of Ford’s Product Development in Europe said, “The new Focus ST delivers an even more sophisticated balance of performance, driving dynamics, refinement and style – the core of Ford’s Sports Technologies DNA…even more enjoyable and rewarding to drive and with the choice of diesel power for the first time, the new Focus ST is in a class of its own.” Martin Smith director of Ford Europe’s design division informed, “Focus ST has proved very popular with Ford’s sporty customers and the new model takes that to an even more striking and dramatic level.” The car will go for sale in early 2015.

The latest generation model is undoubtedly more aggressive and sportier than all previous generations. The stance is wider and lower than before and new notable additions are- rectangular fog lamps, slimmer headlamps and a new sculpted bonnet. The honeycombed front grille has also been modified and bi-xenon headlights have been added. There are also several aerodynamic tweaks like rear roof spoiler, side skirts and side diffusers. There are some optional features like ST badging, black colored lamp bezels and 19 inch wheels. There are also several body colors that the buyer can choose from- Race Red, Frozen White, dark grey Stealth, Panther Black etc.

The interior has not been changed radically and is similar to the regular model. However there are some new additions like- adjustable Recaro seats, new leather wrapped steering wheel, chrome gear livers and special pedals. The seats though sporty, are also comfortable enough for daily use. Three new gauges have been added that display- oil temperature, oil pressure info and turbocharger boost pressure. Infotainment system is controlled through a 8 inch touch screen.

The new model will come with a diesel engine option for the first time. The new turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine can produce 183bhp and has acceleration of 0 to 62mph in 8.1 seconds. Despite the performance it promises to be cheap. Ford claims that the engine can deliver fuel efficiency of 64.2mpg and emission of 114g/km of CO2. Those who are looking for more power can go for the turbo charged 2.0-litre petrol engine. It produces an impressive 247bhp and as a result has faster acceleration of 0 to 62mph in just 6.5 seconds. But not surprisingly it is less economical than the other engine. The claimed figures are fuel efficiency of 41.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 158g/km. both engines are mated with six speed manual transmission.

True to its nature, Ford has packed the car with features. These include- Advanced navigation, powerful audio, climate control, adaptive front lighting, cross traffic alert, Active City Stop collision avoidance system , lane keeping aid etc.
