South Korean car maker Hyundai was mostly known for its smaller cars until in 2009 it launched the luxury sedan the ‘Genesis’. It was the car maker’s first attempt to enter the market segment of luxury cars which has been dominated by mostly European brands. Upon launching it was presented with several awards including the prestigious North American Car of the Year award for 2009, the first for Hyundai. Although the sales in the US market were lower than the Hyundai’s target, it was enough to continue the model as a full size luxury car to compete against cars like Mercedes E-class, BMW 5 Series, Lexus GS and Infiniti M. Now Hyundai is ready with the all new second generation ‘Genesis’. It was showcased at the 2014 North American International Auto Show and will be available for sale from late 2014 as 2015 model year. Hyundai has also taken the business strategy of not launching any separate luxury division or any exclusive dealership network unlike other companies do with their luxury cars. On the occasion of the launch, Hyundai America VP (corporate and product planning) Mike O’Brien said, Hyundai is proud to bring our next-generation Genesis sedan to eager U.S. consumers in just a few short months…Market expectations for the new Genesis are understandably high, and we’re confident the Genesis’ combination of superb dynamics, bold design, class-leading safety and driver-focused technologies will exceed those expectations by a large margin.”

The second generation model will be the first Hyundai car to debut the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design style that looks to defy design conventions. It consists of a modern version of a typical Hyundai look, fluid aesthetics and a premium feel.

The exterior design of the car gives out a very significant premium feel. At the front there is a striking single frame, hexagonal grille. It has been given a semi gloss chrome finish. Other features are- fog lamps, LED indicators, HID headlamps. The rear has given a sculptural design with jewel shaped tail lamps. 10 exterior color choices are available.

Inside, a new layout has made the cabin very spacious and comfortable for all occupants. Ergonomics has been applied very carefully for seat design and cup holders and item storage spaces have been given through attention. The steering wheel and switchgear design has been refined. The use of sound absorbing materials has made the cabin very quiet. High quality materials have been used to design the interiors. 12 way power front seats and heated rear seats are also available.
