2015 Mazda 2 Demio 1 New 2015 Mazda 2 ready for release

The ‘Mazda 2’ is actually the ‘Demio’ city car launched by Mazda in 1996. The ‘2’ name was adopted for all markets except Japan, after the launch of the second generation model in 2002. The present third generation model was launched in 2007. The reports of a new generation model had emerged last year. At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the Hazumi Concept car was showcased that would serve as the basis of the new model. An official online released was scheduled, but the photos and some informed leaked online. The all-new ‘Mazda 2’ city car will be made available from later this year.

It is clear from the photos that the new model has borrowed several styling elements from the ‘Mazda 3’ hatchback. There is the similar sweeping window line and rounded rear from its larger cousin. The front end is marked by a prominent snout and the small headlights that have been pushed back into the front bonnet. The car looks much more muscular than the model it will replace. The rear has been kept mostly similar with the current model with the small tail-lights and the rear spoiler.

From the inside the new car will see some serious change in presentation. From the leaked photos the cabin looks to have a very contemporary design, with the dashboard getting a wide sweeping section. The air vents look like small turbines and the steering wheel is a new one. The media screen on top the dash is really attractive and it is connected to a controller which is placed between the seats in front.

The new model will come with of two 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine options. The base model can produce 79kW of power and torque of 139Nm of torque. The official figures for the top engine are not out yet but it is expected to be around 82kW and 144Nm.
