Japanese car manufacturer Nissan is entering the Russian market with its Datsun brand. As its first offering it is launching a car specifically made for the Russian market, the ‘Datsun on-DO’ sedan. While the bookings were on from July, the units will be delivered from September. The sedan will also be joined by a sporty hatchback, the ‘mi-Do’ that will go on sale next year. While introducing the ‘on-Do’, Carlos Ghosn, the CEO and President of Nissan Motor, had said, that Russia is currently their company’s 5th biggest market globally. In the next three years, the company is looking to triple sales and double the market share.

Nissan expects the Datsun brand to make a contribution of one third of total sales. The company will be looking to draw on 80 years of manufacturing expertise and leveraging of engineering skills, market knowledge, and production abilities of Alliance partner, AVTOVAZ. Their aim is to deliver a Datsun line-up that fits the 21st century.  The needs and preferences of Russian drivers will also be kept in mind.

Currently the ‘Datsun on-DO’ is manufactured at the AVTOVAZ plant in Togliatti, Russia. The car has been fitted with a 1.6-litre, petrol engine that creates power of 87 hp.
