General Motors owned brand Chevrolet first launched the full-size SUV ‘Tahoe’ in 1995. The model is closely related to another General Motors production, ‘GMC Yukon’. Apart from regular passenger use, the ‘Tahoe’ is also popular among law enforcement, fire and medical agencies. Currently in the third generation, a fourth generation model is expected as the 2015 model year. Apart from the regular model, Chevrolet has also been building an off-road focused version called the ‘Tahoe Z71’. The ‘Z71’ is the code that Chevrolet uses to denote off-road/4WD packages for its SUV’s and trucks. Last year 10 percent Chevrolet full size SUV’s were sold with sold with this packages. At the recently held Texas State Fair of 2014, Chevrolet has introduced new ‘Z71’ versions of the ‘Tahoe’ and also the Suburban.

The ‘Z71’ package consists of- 18 inch wheels with off-road tires, skid plates for the front, running boards, unique looking front grille, tow hooks, front parking assist and powerful fog lamps. The Z71 package also fits the models with 4Wheel Drvie. The production of the vehicles will start from October. Not just exterior features, the package will add some features for the inside as well. The additional content includes OnStar 4G LTE that comes with Wi-Fi hotspot (built-in), wireless charging for phones and and hands-free lift-gate control.

The 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot will create a mobile hub that helps the driver and the passenger to stay constantly connected. The hotspot goes on automatically whenever the car is on. Initially customers will be given a three gigabyte data / three month plan. The hands-free lift-gate control function will allow the car owner to open and then close the lift-gate of the car by simply waving the foot. The foot movement will be captured by a sensor that sits below the rear fascia of the car.
