Mercedes-Benz, a division of Daimler AG, is counted as one of the oldest car manufacturers in the world. It was formally established back in 1926 but traces its roots back to 1886 when Karl Benz developed the Benz Patent Motorwagen, considered as the first ever automobile. Mercedes is one of the ‘German Big 3’, the others being BMW and Audi. The official Mercedes slogan is ‘Das Beste oder nichts’ which translates to ‘the best or nothing’ in English. Mercedes has established itself as one of the best-selling luxury car brands in the world. Apart from its vast range of luxury cars, it also develops sports cars through its performance division AMG (full name Mercedes-AMG GmbH). AMG was originally an independent firm that specialized in enhancing performances of Mercedes cars. It was founded in 1967 by former engineers of Mercedes, Erhard Melcher and Hans Werner Aufrecht. In 1990 Daimler AG began taking an interest in the firm. Later Daimler became sole owner of the firm in 2005. AMG models are characterized by use of carbon fiber in its construction, aggressive styling and higher levels of performance than regular Mercedes models.

The very first car from Mercedes was a sports car and from time to time the company pays tribute to its heritage by developing cars that focus on sports performance. Mercedes-AMG is now looking to enter a new premium segment with its latest offering, ‘Mercedes-AMG GT’ (Grand Tourer). It is the second ever sports car that has been fully developed from scratch by Mercedes-AMG. Prof Dr Thomas Weber, management board member for research and development, has said that with this new car Mercedes is entering into a challenging segment of sports car. The company takes this as a motivation and also an incentive. Mercedes-AMG is also looking to show sports car lovers all over the world what they can deliver. CEO of Mercedes-AMG, Tobias Moers has said that Mercedes-AMG is trying to position itself with extra effort as a modern day dynamic brand of sports car. He assured that because of the brand’s technological substance, the car will be able to fulfill the very high aspirations that everyone sets for Mercedes-AMG cars, including aspects like sportiness, driving dynamics and agility. The makers have also paid great attention to the area of designing. After the car was unveiled, Gorden Wagener, VP design of Daimler AG described the new ‘Mercedes-AMG GT’ as a pure formed sports car. The car has been endowed with stunning proportions. It also has sculpted surfaces and flowing lines on its body. It is a gracious combination of beauty and intelligence. The two-seater car has prominent powerdomes on its longish bonnet. The wheels are large and so is the tailgate. The front fascia features a three-dimensional grille with the Mercedes star at the center and also the’ AMG’ lettering. The high performance headlamps have LED functions. There are also multiple high-beam reflectors. There are also large air intakes that send air to the cooling modules. Customers will be given multiple options to customize the exterior look of the car. The interior is also very eye catching and gives out a feeling of comfort and spaciousness.

The car will run on an AMG V8 4.0-litre bi-turbo engine. It is first sports engine that has internal turbochargers and dry sump lubrication. There are two output options -462 hp for the GT and 510 hp for the range-topping GT S. The figures delivered by the engine are also captivating. It takes only 3.8 seconds to go from 0 to 62 mph and has a maximum speed of 193 mph. The excellent engine will deliver a performance that will give a great driving pleasure.
