When Karl Benz designed the first ever petrol powered vehicle in 1886 and when in the same year Wilhelm Maybach and Gottlieb Daimler converted a stagecoach by adding a petrol engine, the seeds of Mercedes-Benz was sown. The brand was officially established in 1926. Since then it has established itself as a leading manufacturer of luxury cars, trucks, and buses/ coaches. It is known as one the ‘German Big 3’ along with BMW and Audi. Mercedes firmly holds its position as one of the best-selling car brands in the world. Over the years, Mercedes has also introduced many technological innovations through its cars. Apart from luxury cars, Mercedes has also shown its expertise in developing sports car and engines. It is one of the major names in the formula one circuit. The famous three star logo was originally used by Gottlieb Daimler is a letter to his wife. Later his sons Paul and Adolf Daimler decided to use that symbol as trademark. Although over the years, the logo has gone through some changes. Mercedes introduced the ‘B-Class’ compact car in 2005. It is very similar to the ‘A-Class’ but us larger and has some additional engines. While it is similar to a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), Mercedes describes the ‘B-Class’ as a compact sized sports tourer. Currently the model is in its second generation. Mercedes-Benz has recently revealed the images and some details of the face lifted ‘B-Class’ that will debut in October at the Paris Motor Show as 2015 model year. Already order booking has started and the face lifted ‘Mercedes B-Class’ facelift will start selling from November 29.


Although it is a face lift, the changes are not easily seen. Only if you watch closely, you will get to see a front bumper with a new design and having larger air ducts. The front grille has been tweaked and the daytime lights are now built-in with the headlight assembly. LED High Performance lighting is available for some extra cost but not with the Electric Drive variant. At the rear you will get bi-color taillights with LED. Also the rear bumper is modified and now holds trapezoidal shaped exhaust pipes.

Inside you will get an 8-inch free-standing screen to see important function and information. Ambient lighting is available in 12 color options. You can also add keyless start function.


Mercedes is only offering four-cylinder engines. To start, the ‘B 180’ has a 1.6-liter engine that creates 122 PS & torque of 200 Nm. The ‘B 200’ has the same unit but the output is more with 156 PS & torque of 250 Nm. Both the ‘B 220 4MATIC’ and ‘B 250’ use a 2.0-liter engine but with different outputs- 184 PS & 300 Nm and 211 PS & 350 Nm,, respectively. Those who are looking for diesel power will get a base ‘B 160 CDI’ 1.5-liter taken from Renault that generates 90 PS & torque of 240 Nm. Then there is the ‘B 180 CDI’ that generates 109 PS & torque of 260 Nm. If you upgrade to ‘B 200 CDI’, you will get 2.1-liter with power of 136 PS & torque of 300 Nm. Finally there is the range topping ‘B 220 CDI’ that generates 177 PS & torque of 350 Nm.

Those who will opt for the ‘B-Class Electric Drive’ will get power from an electric motor with power of 180 PS (132 kW) and torque of 340 Nm (251 lb-ft). The unit will take the car 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in a decent time of 7.9 seconds while the top speed is 99 mph (160 km/h). top speed.
