Japanese auto manufacturer Subaru was founded back in 1953. It is a part of the Fuji Heavy Industries, a transportation group. Toyota currently has a 16.5 % stake in Fuji, making its technology available partially available for Subaru cars. Within the automobile world, Subaru has been able to build a distinct identity because of its use of boxer engines ( flat engine with horizontally moving pistons) and all-wheel drive in almost every car since 1972. Its cars have also achieved significant success in rally racing. One of the best known cars from Subaru is the compact car ‘Impreza’. The model was first launched in 1992. It is available in sedan and hatchback body styles. A well known high performance variant called the ‘WRX’ , that took part in the rally championships is also being built since 1992. The ‘Impreza’ is currently in its fourth generation (launched in 2011). For the 2015 model year, Subaru is releasing a new version with styling changes both outside and inside. It will also carry notable driver assist technology and is one of the most well equipped models in its segment. For the last six years, Subaru has been experiencing great sales in the USA. Now the Japanese car maker wants to continue this run with this latest model.


Outside the revised styling consists of- new bumper for the front, newly designed headlights and front grille. For better aerodynamics, a new exterior mirror and a trunk spoiler has been added. Another new addition is the LED stoplights (high mounted). Thanks to the new cosmetic changes, the car looks more aggressive and has similar appearance to the 2015 model year ‘Subaru Legacy’. The wheels on this car are low rolling resistance tires that helps in fuel efficiency.

Because it has been built on a long 104.1-inch wheelbase, the new model has one of the most spacious cabins, you can find in that particular segment. This translates into impressive 35.4 inch legroom for the rear seat passengers. Once you enter the cabin, you can see a 6.2-inch touchscreen that has been made a standard infotainment feature. The system will offer you many useful functions like Camera (rear view), Smartphone connectivity, HD radio, audio streaming with iPod, AUX and USB support and Bluetooth hands-free. While the standard a four speaker audio system comes as standard but there is also a six-speaker system with the higher trims. Then there is the power assist steering wheel. Those who will go for the higher trims will get a 7-inch touchscreen with the infotainment system. The system will come with voice controlled navigation function, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, SMS, iTunes, USB ports and The higher trims also mean a quieter cabin and better trim materials. The new model has been fitted with the Subaru developed Driver Assist Technology that consists of Pre-collision braking, Lane departure warning and Adaptive cruise control.


The 2015 model year ‘Impreza’ will draw power from a 4 cylinder Boxer 2.0-liter engine. The engine can produce power of 148 hp (6,200 rpm) and torque of 145 lb.-ft. (4,200 rpm). To emphasize the low and mid range of torque, the long-stroke configuration with 90mm stroke and 84mm bore has been added. The engine has chain driven camshafts that help to reduce servicing costs in the long-term. The engine also has AVCS or ‘Dual Active Valve Control System’. With this system the variable valve timing helps to optimize emission and torque.

The BOXER engine is very responsive and it can be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission or a second-generation Lineartronic CVT that is more compact and lighter. It is also available with all Subaru models of 2015.
