Volkswagen is one of the biggest names in the world of automobiles. Not only it is one of the biggest and bestselling brands in the world but also the name of the umbrella group that sells cars under eight well known brands and produces the third highest number of automobiles in the world. Volkswagen was originally founded back in 1937. Over the years it has produced several globally popular cars and has the distinction of having 3 cars in the top 10 all time highest selling car list. These 3 models are –‘Volkswagen Beetle’, ‘Volkswagen Passat’ and the ‘Volkswagen Golf.’ The ‘Golf’ is not only VW’s highest selling model but also the second bestselling model in the world. Around 30 million units of the ‘Golf’ have been produced till date. Currently the model is in its seventh generation. Apart from the regular model, VW also has several variants like the- ‘SV’, ‘GTI’, ‘GTD’ and the upcoming ‘Golf R’. At October’s Paris Motor Show, VW will be showcasing a brand new sof-roader variant called the ‘Golf Alltrack’. This is seen as a follow up of the ‘Passat Alltrack’ which was seen as an attempt to fill the gap between on-road and off-roader cars. The model has been developed to travel regular roads as well as slightly hostile roads. The sales will start from 2015.


The front fascia of the new model has a low-profile front grille crossbar that is extended to the headlights and has aluminum like finish. There is also a honeycomb air intake in the redesigned bumper. Lighting area features standard fog lights that are also fitted with cornering lights. At the rear, you will find red tail lights and a bumper with new design. There are options of dual-branch exhaust with chrome tailpipes or simply dual tailpipes. The car will ride on 17 inch stylish alloy wheels.

The interior looks high-end and has a sporty character. The interior styling is marked by steering wheel and gear lever with leather based trims, customized cover for the seats with ‘Alltrack’ badging, special accents for the central console as well as the inside door and dashboard. There are also ambient lights in the cabin. Other standard features include- automatic climate control special LED reading light for passengers, touch based infotainment, Driver Alert feature and cruise control. Those who are looking for exclusive features can go for- chrome trim for central console, stainless steel plates for the door sill and chrome accents for almoat every part of the car. Those who want sportier feel can go for special black roof lining, custom pedals and aluminum foot rest.


VW will offer a total of four engine options with all four-cylinder units, a petrol and three diesels.

  • In a first for the ‘Golf’, there is a 1.8 liter TSI engine with 180 PS/ 132 kW. It can accelerate to o to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds and the top speed is 217 km/h. It is paired with a 6-speed dual clutch gearbox.
  • Next up is a 1.6 liter TDI with 110 PS/ 81 kW. It can reach 0 to 100 km/h in a decent 12.1 seconds and has a highest speed of 187 km/h.
  • Then there is a 2.0 liter TDI engine with 150 PS/ 110 kW. The engine has a 207 km/h top speed and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 8.9 seconds.
  • Those who want more power can go for the 2.0 liter TDI with even more power output of 184 PS/ 135 kW. It takes 7.8 seconds to sprint to 100 km/h and has a top speed of 219 km/h.
