Japanese manufacturer Honda is a globally renowned name in the world of automobiles. Founded in 1946 has went on to become one of the biggest car, two-wheeler and engine manufacturers in the world. Honda is known for its remarkable success in foreign markets like the USA and in more recent years India. One of its most popular models currently on sale is the compact/ crossover SUV, ‘CR-V’. Honda has been building the SUV from 1995. It is currently Honda’s entry level SUV and is in its fourth generation. Since its introduction the model has been a high seller and on several occasions has become the best-selling SUV in the US. It is also very popular in Asian markets like Indonesia, Thailand and India. Opinions vary over the full form of the name but in the UK, Honda once referred the car as ‘Compact Recreational Vehicle’ (CR-V). Honda is giving the fourth generation ‘CR-V’ a mid-cycle face lift. However the update is going to be very significant and not just cosmetic. Honda has promised more power , more efficiency and a balance of safety and performance. Honda will be making the car available in dealerships from 1st October 2014 and has already announced the prices for the various trims.

The main highlights of the face lifted ‘CR-V’ are as follows-

  • The direct-injected engine with 11 percent extra torque and more efficiency
  • New Continuous Variable Transmission that leads to better performance as well as more efficiency
  • A new bold looking design for the exterior along with enhancements for braking, chassis and sound proofing.
  • Longer list of standard features like an armrest for the central console , sun visors and ventilation ducts for the rear.
  • Longer list of optional features like- power tailgate, 10-way adjustable driver seat with power adjustment and heating, LED daytime lights, and Display Audio feature.
  • New Honda Sensing suite that has advanced features for safety and driver assistance. It has features like Warning for Forward Collision, Mitigation Braking, Lane keeping assist , Adaptive Cruise Control, Warning system for Lane Departure and more.


The visual changes take place mostly on the front fascia of the car. The face lifted has gotten a redesigned bumper with integrated fog lights. The front grille has also been modified and the headlights have become sleeker. New designs for the alloy wheels have also been introduced. At the rear, the bumper has seen some subtle changes while the tailgate window has received a trim of chrome.

Once you step inside the car’s cabin, you will get to see more features than before. The longer list of standard features include- new armrest ( central console), sun visors with sliding function and rear ducts for ventilation. Clients will also get to choose from options like- ten-way driver seat with power, memory & heating, electric tailgate, seven-inch Display screen for infotainment and powerful LED daytime lights.

In the case of driver assistance and safety systems there is adaptive cruise control, collision braking, lane keeping assist, collision warning, and warning system in case of lane departure and also Honda’s LaneWatch system.


The powertrain has also seem some significant changes. While the power of the 2.4 liter four-cylinder petrol engine is same as before with 184 bhp, the torque has been raised significantly. From 163 lb-ft it has become to 181 lb-ft. To work with the engine, a new Variable Transmission (CVT) has been added. It has resulted in a fuel consumption figure for 4WD that has been EPA-certified at 27 mpg for city, 34 mpg for the highway and 29 mpg in the combined cycle. On the other hand the AWD will get 26 mpg / 33 mpg and 28 mpg in the respective areas.
