Legendary American auto maker Ford used to make the compact truck ‘Ford Ranger’ between from 1983 to 2012. The nameplate is still used in a model that is sold in some international markets. The American model, both its first and second generations were badge engineered from Mazda trucks because Ford and Japanese manufacturer Mazda had a partnership at that time. The Ford ranger later served as a basis for the five-door variant ‘Ford Everest’. The ‘Everest’ is sold mainly in the Asian markets and is called the ‘Ford Endeavour’ in India. This mid-size SUV first came out in 2003 and is built in Thailand. Ford first presented the new age ‘Ford Everest’ as concept vehicle during the 2014 Bangkok Motor Show and recently it began releasing teaser images and videos. But now the production version 2015 model year ‘Ford Everest’ has been revealed. Ford says that it conducted its most extensive market research in the Asia Pacific region ever before building the model. The new model will arrive in the markets in early 2015. China is expected to be the first market that will be getting the model. It will also be sold in ASEAN countries, India (as Endeavour) Australia, New Zealand and in some parts of the African continent like South Africa as well.

According to Dave Schoch the President of Ford in Asia Pacific, the 2015 Everest is a very versatile car that is perfectly suited for both day to day use and also the occasional adventure on extreme terrains. The ‘Everest’ blends significant level of comfort and toughness and capability in order to impress drivers throughout Asia Pacific regions and other parts of the world. Trevor Worthington, VP of product development for Ford Asia Pacific, feels that the new Ford will be help the company in the expansion of product footprint throughout the aforementioned region. He described the car as a refined yet tough vehicle that will enable drivers and their family and friends to undertake a comfortable journey, regardless of being a city road or a rugged track. He also added that with models like the ‘EcoSport’ and the ‘Everest’, Ford’s SUV of portfolio in the regions of Asia Pacific has something for almost every buyer. Worthington has further expressed his view that the new car is a symbol of epic commitment on behalf of Ford Motors to attain and eventually exceed the high expectations of customers in markets around the world. He said that the company has set aggressive targets since the very start, and with the latest ‘Everest’ they have set the bar very high in the segment with class leading capability along with advanced technology, distinguishable design. This way Ford will be able to deliver safer, smarter and more versatile vehicle in exchange for a competitive price.

Thanks to its sculpted and rugged design the new model gives out a feeling of toughness as well as technological advancement., True to the tradition of Ford, the new model looks to bring together aspects like modern features, eye catching style, versatility, driving pleasure etc. The new model has been empowered by the ‘fun-to-drive’ concept of Ford and offers great response, dynamic handling and riding quality. The development of the new ‘Ford Everest’ was led by Ford’s product development and designing team in Asia Pacific and put to use the expertise of Ford in building SUV’s the world over. The latest version of the ‘Everest’ looks to continue the strengths of the outgoing model which received high praise for its versatility and toughness. Ford will be offering the car with both four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive options depending on the demand of the particular market.


The 2015 model year ‘Everest’ is inspired by the ‘Ford Ranger’ truck and takes the basic styling from it. But as an SUV it becomes much more upscale both from the inside as well as the outside. There are several noticeable features in the car. The list includes LED daytime lights, aluminum based protection for the underbody ( front and rear) and large sized chrome based hexagonal shaped front radiator grille. The car enjoys generous proportions like 225mm of ground clearance and a water-wading capacity of 800mm. The towing capacity of the new SUV is at an impressive 3,000 kg. Ford has claimed that the ‘Everest’ has class leading cago payload of 750 kg. (roof payload of around 100 kg. ) The approach angle and the departure angle stands respectively at 29-degree and 25-degree.

Inside the cabin there are seven seats and the cabin has been given a large number of small storage areas that offers a total combined space of 48 liters. If you fold down the third and second seat rows you will get a total cargo capacity of 2,010 liters. It has also been fitted with an advanced SYNC2 infotainment that comes with 8 inch touch screen, two USB slots, a 240-volt socket and multiple 12-volt outlets.


As expected from Ford the 2015 ‘Everest’ contains a wide variety of utility and safety features. Some of these are- Hill Start Assist, Hill Curve Control, Warning for Lane Departure, Assist for Lane Keeping, Blind Spot detections with Crossing Traffic Alert, ESP and Cruise Control,


In case of engines, the new SUV will be come with a 2.0 liter four-cylinder EcoBoost and a 2.2 liter four-cylinder Duratorq TDCi unit. Those who are looking for more power can go for 3.2 liter five-cylinder Duratorq TDCi unit. Both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions are available.
