In recent years, ‘The German Big 3’ auto makers, Mercedes, BMW and Audi has revamped their range of SUV’s by introducing smaller crossover models that appeal to a broad range of buyers. One such bright example is the ‘Q3’ executive class compact sized crossover car. It was introduced in the year 2011 as 2012 model year. The vehicle was first seen as a concept car that was revealed during the 2007 Motor Show in Shanghai, China. It was designed by Julian Hoenig who also later designed the production version. It is built using the PQ35 platform developed by Volkswagen that can also be found in VW Tiguan, VW Golf (Mk5) and other Volkswagen group cars like Skoda Yeti and SEAT Tribu. Unlike other models in the range like ‘Q5’ and ‘Q7’, the ‘Q3’ is like a sporty style lifestyle car. The model has been heavily promoted in emerging markets like India and China. The model is not built in Germany but in three nations across the world- China, India and Spain. As per latest reports the model will be launched in the North American market in 2014. Apart from the base model, Audi also builds the higher performing ‘RS Q3’. Since the model has become popular after release , Audi is looking to build on that success by giving the model a face lift for the 2015 model year. While the date for its public debut has not been announced yet, Audi has revealed photos and information about the face lifted version.
