Pioneering German car maker Volkswagen introduced BlueMotion marked models for the first time in 2006. BlueMotion marked cars are variants of VW production range models that mainly focuses on fuel efficiency. For the 2015 model year, Volkswagen is introducing the BlueMotion technology in the Polo with a TSI engine. VW claims that this is the first time the company is applying this advanced fuel-efficiency technology with a petrol engine. The TSI engine in question is a 3-cylinder 1.0 liter turbocharged unit with an output of 95 PS or 70 kW power and torque of 160 Nm or 118 pound-feet. The average consumption of the engine is 4.1 liters per 100 km or 57 miles per gallon. The CO2 emissions are only 94 g/km, which is lower than a standard 1.0 liter TSI unit. Volkswagen claims that the TSI BlueMotion engine will be able to reach a top speed of 190 km per hour.

In addition to the engine, there are several factors that have helped the car to reach such impressive figures. These factors are- tires with low resistance, long gear ratios, and aerodynamic design. There are also secondary factors like regenerative braking, gear-change indication, automatic start/ stop, low riding height etc.

Like other ‘Polo’ models in the range, the Volkswagen Polo TSI BlueMotion has several utility and safety features. There are standard features like- servo steering (electro-mechanical), Post-collision auto braking. Optional features include- driver alert, emergency city braking, Adaptive cruise control, ambient traffic monitoring etc.

The available infotainment system options have been overhauled as well. There are several options- three CD/radio systems and one choice of CD/radio/navigation system. The available features will depend on the chosen version. They include- Bluetooth audio streaming (including touchscreen control, proximity sensor and also mobile phone interfacing by using the exterior antenna of the car. The system uses inductive coupling technique .
