After the images gave a peek into Tivoli compact SUV in December last year, SsangYong Motor has finally revealed the beauty. The brand new model was launched in Seoul, South Korea on Tuesday. The car borrows its design largely from XIV Adventure and XIV Air from 2014 Paris Motor Show.

Tivoli is armed with the all-new 1.6-liter e-XGi 160 petrol engine. The power output is 126 HP, while the torque generated is 157 Nm. The powerful engine is mated to either of the two – automatic gearbox or a manual transmission. Both of these come with six gears. The fuel economy of the manual version is 8.1 liter per 100 kilometer. As for the automatic version, the car consumes 8.3 liter for every 100 kilometer. Initially, the car would be offered in just petrol version as a front-wheel drive. The 1.6-litre diesel edition will then follow after a few months. This too, will have the choices of manual and automatic transmission. Also, the entire line-up will be available with four-wheel drive before 2015 ends. The company is planning to offer the car with selectable steering weights, namely Normal, Comfort, and Sport.

The interior has several useful features such as seven airbags, rearview camera and dual-zone climate control system. The car is equipped with a classic infotainment system that offers Bluetooth connectivity and a touchscreen display. Talking about the looks, the interior will initially come in gloss-black. It has a contrast roof lining. Moreover, buyers can customize the interior with several customization options at their disposal. In the lower-end editions, bright orange screen has been chosen for the stereo. The higher-end editions will offer excellent features in terms of technology. They shall be equipped with a touchscreen that will use HDMI connection to play audio and video files from the user’s smartphone. Another feature offered is satellite navigation. The five-seater is quite spacious. It has a boot capacity of 423 liters, and there is enough headroom and rear leg. The hatchback is 4.2 meter long. The roof angle is similar to a Range Rover Evoque and sizeable haunches can be seen over the rear wheel arches. The exterior will feature 16 inch or 18 inch wheels.

Tivoli would be available to South Korean customers from this month itself. Later, it would enter the markets of Europe, South America and China. The company has plans to sell about 100,000 units every year. Out of these, 60,000 units are for the export markets. It expected that the car will also enter US later. In the domestic market, it would compete with Renault Captur and Chevrolet Trax. While in the European market, Opel Mokka and Nissan Juke will be its rivals. In UK, the company strives to achieve the sales of 3,500 this year. Last year, their total sales were 1,700. But chances of Tivoli entering the Indian markets are low.

The price ranges from $15,000 to $21,500. A grand 320 million dollars have been invested for this model. The prices in UK are yet to be officially revealed. However, it is reported that the initial price will be less than £13,000 in case of the front-wheel-drive petrol manual model. For £20,000, customers will get sundry additional features – 4×4 diesel automatic along with 18-inch wheels, TomTom-based sat-nav leather trim and a reversing camera. As the CEO of the company – Yoo il Lee told the media, this new launch will play a significant role in making SsangYong a global SUV maker. He also said that US is a difficult market, and therefore a meticulous study is required. It is uncertain when they will enter US, but they will surely enter it.
