2016 Nissan Titan XD made its debut at 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The car will enter the North American and Canadian markets by the end of this year. With its bold looks and excellent technology, it will give a tough competition to the rivals in the full-size pickup segment. It will have a marked influence in the segment between light-duty entries and traditional heavy-duty. As the senior vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing and Operations U.S- Fred Diaz told the media, it is hard to be successful in the full-size truck market. The brand new XD will offer what buyers do not get in the other vehicles in this segment. Other than outstanding hauling and towing capabilities, it provides excellent comfort in every way. The planning, design, engineering and manufacturing was carried out by the Nissan teams at Tennessee, Michigan, California, Mississippi and Arizona. The engine has been crafted by Cummins Inc. in Indiana.

Power and torque are not the only things to look out for in the engine. This masterpiece is refined, responsive, starts fast, is lightweight, quiet and offers clean emissions. Titan XD Cummins diesel is the very the first commercial application of Cummins M2 two-stage turbo system. It reduces traditional turbo-lag and this is done through precision balancing between the high-pressure and the low-pressure turbos. Moreover, Rotary Turbine Control is available to ensure outstanding performance across the powerband; it manages exhaust gas temperatures as well.

The vehicle utilizes Bosch® HPCR fuel system. This has been incorporated to deliver precise fuel control, as well as multiple injections per combustion stroke. This reduces traditional diesel clatter besides enhancing the efficiency. The advanced, Bosch® ceramic glow plugs, which are maintenance-free, provide quick engine starts in low temperatures also. Moreover, the Cummins diesel design guarantees maximum durability as well as power in a lightweight package. To shed the kilos, the cylinder block has been made from compacted graphite iron (CGI) – a material that is stronger and lighter than traditional iron. Other lightweight engine components include composite valve covers and high-strength aluminum-alloy heads. The engine’s noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics are excellent, due to the presence of the CGI block and the dual overhead camshafts. The company has incorporated a filter and selective catalytic reduction in the exhaust system, to ensure that the engine runs cleaner. This reduces the diesel noise too. Cummins 5.0L V8 Turbo Diesel is cheaper when compared to big bore heavy-duty diesels. Also, it boasts a much better performance than the small displacement diesel engine.

The maximum payload is greater than 2,000 pounds, while the maximum towing rate exceeds 12,000 pounds. The vehicle has impressive towing aids, such as Integrated Trailer Brake Controller and Trailer Sway Control (TSC). Also present is the Tow/Haul Mode along with Downhill Speed Control. Additionally, there is a Trailer Light Check system. This allows one-person hook-up operation which comprises of checking turn signals and running/clearance lights from inside the cab. RearView Monitor is present along with Trailer Guides. Around View® Monitor (AVM) will provide the driver with bird’s eye view of the surroundings from the front, side and rear cameras. This would help with parking and also pulling the vehicle in and out of tight spaces.

The notable features in the exterior are LED headlights and taillights, puddle lamps, signature Daytime Running Lights and step rails for cabin and also bed entry/exit. The car has been blessed with Utili-track™ Bed Channel System. This provides heavy-duty aluminum alloy cleats and also bed floor and header tracks which give rise to several tie-down possibilities. Passengers will enjoy a front storage increased by 33%, while the rear storage has been enhanced by 28%.
