The 2015 Mitsubishi L200 was revealed as Triton in Thailand last year in November. This stunning model will now appear at Geneva Motor Show next month. The L200 is now in its fifth generation. Mitsubishi describes this new launch as the brand new Sport Utility Truck that carries on the legacy of the company’s previous models. In past last nine years, the automaker has enjoyed an incredible sale. 1.3 million units have been sold until now in Europe.
This latest pick-up truck blends utmost performance with dashing style. It is armed with the new 2.4-liter turbodiesel that comes in two states of tune. The first one is rated 154 HP and 380 Nm. While the second one gives 181 HP power and 430 Nm torque. For both the options, the engine is mated to the new six-speed manual gearbox. The vehicle is blessed with an impressive efficiency. The predecessor model produced 199 gm/km of CO2. Whereas this brand new model produces just 169 gm of CO2 per kilometer. This is an improvement of 17% when compared with the previous one.
The vehicle has been ingeniously designed, and has a lower aerodynamic coefficient equal to 0.40 Cd. This has enhanced the fuel efficiency. L200 has a full-time four-wheel drive system.
It is equipped with a wealth of safety and assistance features. Active Stability & Traction Control is present along with Trailer Stability Assist. Also present are the Hill Start Assist System and Lane Departure Warning to give the driver a relaxed driving experience. SS4-II, that is Super Select 4WD II gives improved cornering stability. It ensures safety on paved road too. By rotating the drive mode selector, the driver can choose one out of the four available driving modes. The vehicle features HID headlamps accompanied by integrated LED daytime running lights and also Bi-Xenon projectors. These features guarantee superior vision during night driving or long winter.
The company has enhanced passive safety too. The vehicle includes seven airbags along with side airbags and curtain airbags present in the front seats. The driver is provided with an added knee airbag. Reach & rake adjustment can be done on the steering wheel
Rear doors have been added to make customers feel more convenient on Club Cab. Keyless operation system is present with engine stop/start switch. Yet more features are Dual temperature automatic air conditioning, Rear view camera, Steering column-mounted paddle shifters, Cruise Control with adaptive speed limiter and Digital Audio Broadcasting radio system.
The interior has been made quieter with noise-reducing measures on the truck’s body. The extended rear suspension leafs and enlarged body mounts give the passengers a vibration-reduced ride that is smooth like nothing before. Even more comfort is ensured by better seats and driving position. The enhanced bed length and roominess are yet other features that make the vehicle a strong contender in the market. Drivers will enjoy agile handling- thanks to steering gear ratio that is quicker than before. L200 has the radius of 5.9m, just like its predecessor.
Mitsubishi has improved the toughness and reliability of the vehicle by reinforcing and refining the body structure. The torsional rigidity of chassis frame is now 7% higher. This enables the vehicle to endure the tough conditions over a wide range of terrains in which pickups have to work.
Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has built the latest L200 for all global markets. The summer of 2015 will see its launching in Europe. The vehicle would be available in two body styles- Double Cab and Club Cab. In Asia Pacific, the L200 will hit the markets in early 2015 and Europe is expected to get it sometime later this year.
